COVERING PAGES

The Great Fire of London Colouring and Activity Book is comprised of 10 (4 page) sections. Each section begins with a Covering Page, containing an extract from Samuel Pepys’ diary. We follow Samuel through the main events of the Great Fire as the sections progress. The Covering Page also details a key personality important to each each section, as well as one of our Boffins with their imagination hard at work.

DETAILED SCENES

Each section has a Detailed Scene. There are 10 of these in total throughout the book. The Detailed Scene complements the Cover Page. There is no further text on these pages. They can be quite complex and so are well suited to older children. Younger children will still enjoy however, particularly if parents were to take the opportunity to show off their own skills or assist then in difficult areas.

KEY FACTS

Of the remaining 20 pages some of the most important are the Key Fact pages. These detail certain aspects of the Great Fire of London and it’s historical impact. Other Key Fact pages have interesting things about the period, such as the Black Death, Kings courtiers and fire fighting methods. These pages are fun to draw but also encourage additional learning. It’s within these Key Fact pages that the real Boffins amongst us will come of age.

ACTIVITIES

There are many Activities to do in the Great Fire of London Colouring and Activity Book. You’ll find them contained within the Key Facts and Cover Pages, as well as having their own dedicated pages. Activities include, Colour the Fire’s Spread, Find the Hidden Objects, WordSearch, Spot the Difference, and The Story of the Cat. A cat appears in 4 of the 10 Detailed Scenes, can you find it? What do you think it might be doing during the other 6 scenes?

THINGS TO DO

As well as colouring, learning, and traditional paper based activities, there are also loads of things to do that encourage children to leave the confines of the book and explore more about life at the time. This includes making Medieval Fine Cakes, going on the Great Fire of London tour, the One Truth, Two Lies drama game, and the Guess What I buried in the Garden game (and hopefully it is not Parmesan cheese).

GREAT FIRE PIGEON GAME

Not to mention The Great Fire of London Pigeon Game. The rules are contained on one printable sheet, and the board on another. A fun game for all the family based on the medieval Game of the Goose, which was actually played at the time by European aristocracy. Perhaps even the King, or Pepys himself played this game, although there would have been less emphasis on pigeons!
